SAN CLEMENTE — City Controller Michael White announced this week that he is leaving to take a similar job with the Orange County Sanitation District.
White, 39, a San Clemente resident who has worked for the city for more than five years, accepts a new controller position recently created at the Fountain Valley-based district.
In San Clemente, White headed an accounting department of about 20 people and a city with a $56-million annual budget. At the sanitation district, White will work in a finance department that is overseeing a $635-million annual budget.
“It’s a step up for me, but I’m looking forward to the challenge,” White said.
His salary range will also increase from a maximum of $6,105 a month in San Clemente to $7,730 a month at the sanitation district.
White’s last day with the city will be May 27. No decision has yet been made whether to promote a San Clemente staff member or to recruit a controller from the outside, White said.
In the interim, senior accountant Brad Cagle will take over as controller.
