Goofy Bank Robber Story No. 4,781

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Trying to disprove the adage that crime doesn’t pay, a man who tried to rob a Charlotte bank has sued the bank for $15 million.
Amil Dinsio, 58, who, along with relatives, tried to hack a hole in the roof of United Carolina Bank two years ago, sued the bank in federal court here.
Dinsio claims his 46-month prison sentence is too long because the bank exaggerated the amount it could have lost ($272,000) had the robbery been successful--which it was not.
Dinsio, now in a federal prison in Loretto, Pa., says the $15 million in his suit was “just a figure.”
“It’s what you do in lawsuits,” he said. “I’d be happy with a couple of million.”
