‘The Paper’ Is Rated R

In regard to Charles Neal’s May 7 letter (“No, Not Everybody’s Laughing at the Movies”):
So, Neal saw people leave the film “The Paper” with their children before it ended. Excellent idea. The movie is definitely, emphatically unsuited for children.
An R rating should alert filmgoers that there is something iffy about a film’s message. They might then check it out in advance, so their afternoons can be more pleasant.
I am appalled by explicit sex and violence, so I read reviews and boycott films that contain it. I am not appalled by explicit language when it fits the context, which this did. I found the movie hilarious and Neal’s distress more out of bounds than the film’s vocabulary.
