College to Host May Kite Festival

The skies over Moorpark College will be flecked with hundreds of multicolored kites Saturday when the college hosts a May Kite Festival.
Organizers came up with the idea this year as a way to “get the community involved in a big way” at the college, said event coordinator Susan Jeffers.
“The object is to get people out here to have fun,” she said.
Included on the day’s agenda is a kite-flying demonstration inside the school gym by a nationally recognized kite flyer.
“These new kites are totally amazing,” Jeffers said. “They don’t need any wind. They lift off with just the motion of walking.”
Along with the demonstration, kite “dogfights” and kite “ballets,” the event will include several contests in which awards for the most creative and most aerodynamically designed kites will be awarded.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held on the lower athletic field south of the college gymnasium. Admission is $3, with children under 12 admitted free. Parking is also free.
