SURFING : Haughey Posts Top Surf Score

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Jason Haughey of Huntington Beach scored the highest marks of the day in the first day of competition Wednesday of the Bud Surf Tour’s Body Glove at Huntington Beach event.
Haughey, whose overall score is 21.67, had an 8.5 for a wave, the highest score of the day. Other local surfers who finished with top scores included Ryan Conder and Jay Larson, both of Huntington Beach, and Benji Severson, Josh Baxter and Colin McPhillips of San Clemente.
Competition continues today with trials starting at 7 a.m.

Jason Harcharic of Huntington Beach lost his heat in the 15th annual World Surfing Championships Wednesday in Barra Da Dijuca, Brazil.
Harcharic, representing the U.S. amateur team, took fourth place in the short board competition. Curtis Payan of Laguna Niguel lost his round in body board competition.
