National Group Life Charged With 480 Violations: The California Department of Insurance has charged National Group Life Insurance Co. with breaking consumer protection laws. The Rockford, Ill.-based insurer faces fines of up to $4.8 million for the alleged violations, which include failing to investigate and pay claims in a timely manner and not informing customers of consumer protection laws and claim forms. Executives at National Group Life could not be reached for comment.
