LAWNDALE : Nepotism Law Gets Preliminary City OK
- Share via
The City Council has given preliminary approval to an ordinance designed to prevent nepotism at City Hall.
Council members voted 5 to 0 last week to prohibit the city from hiring relatives of the city manager, department heads and elected or appointed officials.
The ordinance also would bar relatives from working in the same department under certain circumstances. Current employees would not be affected as long as they remain in their present positions.
Unlike a previous draft, the proposed law would not prevent the appointment of relatives to committees.
A final vote is scheduled May 19.
