SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Border Patrol Arrests 4 After Chase, Crash

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested four Mexican nationals here Monday after a chase along Interstate 5 from the San Onofre checkpoint ended in a crash.
The four men ran the border checkpoint just after 6 a.m., according to Border Patrol spokeswoman Ann Summers.
The suspects’ car crossed four lanes of traffic and exited the freeway at the El Camino Real off-ramp, but the car’s brakes locked. The car skidded to the bottom of the ramp and hit a metal signpost in the 1700 block of South El Camino Real, Summers said. No one was injured.
After a short chase on foot, the car’s driver, in the United States illegally, was arrested on suspicion of smuggling illegal immigrants. All four occupants are in custody, Summers said.
Because the freeway chase was in danger of becoming a “high-risk pursuit,” Border Patrol agents behind the suspects’ car had turned off their flashers, Summers said.
