Weekend Box Office : ‘Honors’ Tops in a Lackluster Bunch

Maybe it’s the popcorn. Or, maybe it’s just audiences waiting for the big summer movies to reach the theaters. But it was a dismal weekend for many theater chains. The largest box-office draw was “With Honors,” the Joe Pesci comedy from Warner Bros., which pulled in $3.7 million in its second week in release. Second place went to Gramercy’s “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” with $3.6 million, bringing its nine-week total to over $30 million.

“3 Ninjas Kick Back,” a martial arts comedy from TriStar, kicked its way to $3.5 million during its opening weekend, followed by the MGM comedy “Clean Slate” starring Dana Carvey, which grossed $3.1 million during its debut weekend.

* Meanwhile, “Being Human,” the critically panned saga from Warner Bros. in which Robin Williams’ character is shown from caveman times to the modern era, took in $764,011 on 224 screens.
