Exports Rose in April: Higher sales to Hong Kong and Japan pushed exports up 7.9% in April from a year earlier, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said. Sales to Hong Kong, the main conduit for Taiwan’s trade with fast-growing China, rose 15.3% on the year to $1.76 billion. Direct trade between Taiwan and China is banned by Taipei. Sales to Japan increased 15.4% in April from a year earlier.
