Jennifer Bundy, 13, is about to go on a shopping spree at the Buenaventura Mall, compliments of the Ventura Police Department.
On Friday, the Anacapa Middle School seventh-grader placed first among about 50 entries in a poster contest for the Police Department’s annual block party. Her prize: a $125 gift certificate at the mall.
“I’m going to spend it on clothes and shoes,” Jennifer said shortly after she was named the winner.
Her poster, which depicts police officers and children dancing on a block, was selected primarily because it is very colorful, said Elisa Purnell, a background investigator for the Police Department and a member of the selection committee.
“The idea kind of popped into my mind right after they made the announcement about the contest,” Jennifer said.
All four middle schools in Ventura participated in the contest, and police were surprised at the high level of interest, Purnell said. Jennifer’s poster will be used to promote next year’s block party, Purnell said.
