It could happen . . .
The 1994 race in the American League West was a wild one. The Rangers had a five-game lead with 10 games to go. Because they lost eight of nine, their lead had been trimmed to one game by the Angels, who were on a tear with a 5-4 run.
It was the last day of the season and the Rangers lost again, meaning an Angel victory at Chicago would close the season in a tie. The White Sox had already clinched in the Central, and in an effort to boost ticket sales, announced that morning that Michael Jordan would be the starting pitcher.
The Angels then defeated the White Sox, 4-1, to match the Rangers’ record at 70-92 and force a playoff game at Anaheim the next day.
