The Ventura Police Department will hold its annual block party Saturday, hoping to teach residents about public safety issues and give demonstrations on everything from pepper spray to fingerprinting.
“It’s kind of like a mini street fair, but it’s all geared toward public safety,” Ventura Police Lt. Steve Bowman said.
The third annual block party will feature about 180 booths and exhibits on crime prevention, personal safety and other public safety issues. The event is free and will be held at police and fire headquarters at 1425 Dowell Drive.
The event is intended to foster community support for the Police Department and encourage residents to talk to officers, Bowman said.
Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Ventura Suburban Kiwanis Club and opening ceremonies start at 8:30 a.m. The event is scheduled to last until 5 p.m.
