Police Seek Trio in 3 Sunday Carjackings

A trio of carjackings on the Westside were all believed to be the work of three youths who police said apparently stole the cars for the “joy of ripping them off.”
“It’s not that they’re going to sell the cars’ parts, just the joy of ripping them off. It’s crazy,” said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Ted Matthews.
Two carjackings occurred near Venice High School about 4:25 a.m. Sunday, Matthews said.
In the first one, the suspects approached a man in a 1994 Ford Bronco, fired a shot into the air to force the man out and then stole the truck, Matthews said.
About 10 minutes later the three, believed to be 17 or 18 years old, forced a woman to give up a 1986 Honda Civic at the same intersection, he said.
The trio drove the Honda to a gas station where they left the car, robbed a patron and stole his 1992 Ford Explorer, Sgt. Doug Abney said. One of the three allegedly fired a shotgun at the man but missed, Abney said.
The three fled and remain at large.
