ROUNDUP : Winning Run Scores for Channel Islands on Two-Strike Bunt

Channel Islands High pinch-runner Kenny Long scored the winning run from second base in the seventh inning Wednesday to lift the host Raiders to a 4-3 Marmonte League victory over Camarillo. Long scored when Erik Jue misplayed Nacho Godinez’s two-strike bunt.
The Raiders (15-8, 7-4 in league play) remain tied for second place with Simi Valley with three league games left.
Godinez (3-1) earned the victory in relief of starter Rene Sanchez, who had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings before giving up three runs on an error, a single and two doubles.
Johnny Olivares was perfect at the plate for Channel Islands with a single, a double and a triple.
Agoura 3, Royal 2--Charger Kevin Sass hit the decisive two-run home run in the sixth inning of the Marmonte League game at Royal (13-8, 6-5). Agoura pitcher Cary Gallardo (3-4) went the distance.
Newbury Park 10, Westlake 3--Jeff Bennett hit a two-run home run to key the Panthers’ five-run sixth inning that iced the Marmonte League game at Newbury Park (17-5, 10-1). Keith Smith (6-2) earned the complete-game victory.
Notre Dame 6, St. Bernard 2--Jabbar Craigwell hit a two-run homer and Justin Bunch had a pair of doubles in four at-bats for visiting Notre Dame (15-5, 9-2) in the Mission League game. Senior left-hander Rich Igou (8-2) struck out seven and yielded three hits while recording his eighth complete game.
Alemany 9, Loyola 2--Kris Yeamen’s three-run home run snapped a 1-1 third-inning tie and sent host Alemany to the Mission League victory.
Chaminade 2, Bishop Montgomery 1--Gabe Crecion’s solo home run with one out in the bottom of the eighth carried host Chaminade (14-8, 6-5) to a Mission League victory--the 10th in 13 games and setting a school record for victories in Division I play.
Birmingham 4, Monroe 3--Brave outfielder David Cohen tripled in the top of the eighth inning and scored the winning run on Lionel Villareal’s two-out single in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe.
Jamie Darnell (4-1) earned the victory in relief.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Moorpark 5-6, Bakersfield 0-0--Marcy James and Jana Kovar combined to hold visiting Bakersfield to one hit in a pair of makeup games from two separate rainouts. Moorpark is 29-12, 18-0.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Taft 15 1/2, Palisades 14--Toreador sophomore Dylan Mann and freshman Golan Sassoon each swept their four singles matches to lead Taft in a City Section 4-A playoff semifinal at The Racquet Centre in Studio City.
Taft (14-0) will play University--which defeated Chatsworth, 22-7 1/2, in the other semifinal--for the City title next Tuesday.
Taft lost to Chatsworth in last year’s championship.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Highland d. Littlerock, 15-7, 15-0, 15-1--Toby Sides made 18 assists for visiting Highland (13-0, 13-0), which clinched its first-ever league championship with a sweep of the Golden League match.
Ryan Millar had seven kills and Neal Scott added six more, while Mac Wilson made four blocks.
