OXNARD : Plan to Privatize Festival Delayed
- Share via
A proposal to privatize the California Strawberry Festival by next year was stalled this week when members of the committee organizing the annual event were not present to address the Oxnard City Council.
The proposal would allow the city-funded California Strawberry Festival committee, which has organized the event for several years, to form a private corporation to administer the festival.
The plan is recommended for approval by James Faulconer, the city’s recreation and community services director.
Although scheduled Tuesday on the council’s consent agenda, which typically is reserved for non-controversial items, festival committee members had sought to address the council before the plan is considered.
The council rescheduled the matter to its May 17 meeting.
