Assemblywoman Martha M. Escutia (D-Huntington Park) has been named to chair a new Ways and Means subcommittee that will oversee California’s multibillion-dollar transportation system.
The appointment by Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) will put Escutia in charge of a subcommittee with jurisdiction over the California Transportation Commission, the California Highway Patrol and the departments of transportation and motor vehicles.
Escutia is vice chairwoman of the Assembly’s Transportation Committee and heads the select committee on the Alameda Corridor, a proposed $2-billion rail and truck corridor linking the Civic Center and the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
