Police are looking for a man they believe is responsible for the armed robbery of a bar and the attempted robbery of another over the weekend as the bars were closing.
At 2:30 a.m. Saturday, the Classic Q Sports Bar, in the 4200 block of Martingale Way in Newport Beach, was robbed after the manager was tied up, according to Sgt. Andy Gonis. At 2:30 a.m. Sunday, a man hiding in a booth attempted to rob the Corona Cafe, in the 3200 block of East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar. The manager spotted the man, who was carrying a gun, and locked his office door, police said.
In both cases, a man about six feet tall wearing dark clothes and a ski mask brandished a gun and threatened employees while demanding money. Police believe the suspect patronizes the bars before the robberies.
Anyone with information is asked to call Newport Beach detectives at (714) 644-3717.
