Tekelec Posts Profit of $126,000 in 1st Quarter

Calabasas-based Tekelec reported a turnaround for its first quarter, posting a profit of $126,000 in contrast to a loss of $3.33 million in the comparable period a year earlier.

For the three months that ended March 31, the maker of diagnostic and switching systems for communications companies said revenue rose 16%, to $13 million from $11.2 million. The company said the stronger first-quarter results reflect its restructuring in December, which reduced overhead expenses by 25%, plus a surge in orders for its diagnostic equipment.
