Dinger Foils His Pursuers in Winning Saugus Main

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Scott Dinger captured his third main event of the season with a victory in the Pro Stock oval feature race Saturday night at Saugus Speedway.

But it wasn’t easy.

The Simi Valley resident started on the pole, but was shadowed by three cars for the entire 25 laps.

“There was a lot of pressure,” Dinger said. “The car wasn’t handling very well. It was hard to keep it under me.”

That was primarily because Santa Clarita’s Jeff Schrader was breathing down his neck.

Schrader moved past Gerrit Cromsigt of Pine Mountain Club on the sixth lap and was never more than half a car length behind for the final 19 laps.

Arleta’s Brian Kelley provided similar pressure in third place, followed closely by Cromsigt, who finished fourth.

Dinger, 34, who entered the night with a 24-point lead over Richard Karvasek in the points standings, added a victory in the figure-eight trophy dash.

In the Mini Stock main event, Terry Limberopoulos of Bellflower moved past points leader Jeff McCall of Gardena on Lap 13 and cruised to his second feature victory in three starts.

McCall wound up second, with Robert Hynes of West Hills and Newbury Park’s John Petsco finishing third and fourth.

Richard Lloyd of Gardena won the Mini Stock Racing Assn. main event. El Monte’s Kenny Smith was second.
