Fire Shuts Down Stretch of New Jersey Turnpike

NEWARK, N.J. — A 12-mile stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike was shut down for nearly two hours Sunday as firefighters battled a five-alarm brush fire along the highway.
The fire, which started at 3:45 p.m., covered a wide area, from Ridgefield, N.J., to Newark, along I-95. Police said the cause of the fire was unknown. The turnpike was reopened at 5:20 p.m., they said.
