A bus company has been selected to operate a new countywide bus service scheduled to start this summer.
The Ventura County Transportation Commission on Friday approved a contract with Antelope Valley Transportation to operate buses in the federally funded trial bus program.
The program, called Ventura Intercity Service Transit Authority, or VISTA, is scheduled to start in July and run for up to two years. VISTA, designed as a commuter bus service to link Ventura County’s 10 cities, is funded with $1.2 million in federal and local funds.
Routes have not been mapped out, but the air-conditioned, coach-style buses are expected to make one or two stops in each city.
