Horses Not Donated
In reference to a story Feb. 6 about 11 starving horses “donated” to the Humane Society Shelter: To donate is to make a gift of, or to contribute to, a public or charitable cause. These horses are not a gift or contribution to the Humane Society of Ventura County.
California state humane officers went to the Warner Ranch with a search warrant and seized these abused animals as evidence. The animals were placed in protective custody and brought to the Humane Society Shelter. Mrs. Warner agreed to sign the animals over to the Humane Society to avoid prosecution.
The Humane Society of Ventura County is a nonprofit organization that receives no federal, state, county or city funding. We welcome donations.
