Gerant Cos. Wins $52-Million Judgment: The Beverly Hills-based investment company said a U.S. District Court judge in Los Angeles made the award against Japanese conglomerate Marutaka Co. and some of its subsidiaries. Gerant Chairman Alfred Moran Jr. said his company filed the breach-of-contract suit against Marutaka last year, after a merger agreement collapsed when Marutaka refused to provide auditors’ reports. Moran said Marutaka is believed to have about $400 million in assets and that Gerant’s lawyers will try to collect the judgment both in the United States and abroad.
