Split-Second Rescue as Train Bears Down
HARTFORD, Conn. — A man was hit by a car and tossed into the path of an oncoming train but was rescued by a police officer with just seconds to spare.
Roberto Espinosa, 20, was struck by a car while crossing the tracks and could not get up because of sharp pain in his ribs and leg.
Officer John Inho saw the accident while answering a burglar alarm at a liquor store. He ran over and helped Espinosa to his feet as the train’s horn sounded and warning lights flashed. Seconds later, the train passed.
Espinosa was treated for bruises. The driver of the car was charged with failing to stop at a crossing.
