LOS ANGELES : Officers Can Donate Time to Seriously Ill Colleagues

The Los Angeles City Council created a program Tuesday that allows police officers to donate their vacation time and days off to colleagues who are seriously ill and have run out of leave.
“There are officers who are suffering catastrophic illness right now,” said Councilman Joel Wachs, who sponsored the motion. “This will help them immeasurably.”
Ten LAPD officers, half of whom are terminally ill, could use the donated sick leave, officials said. Other city employees already have a similar donation program.
