COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Amos Leads Rancho Santiago to Victory Over Pasadena

Sean Amos had 31 points to help Rancho Santiago to a 72-69 victory over Pasadena in one semifinal of the Crown City Classic Friday at Pasadena College.
Amos, a sophomore forward, was 11 of 14 from the field and made nine of 14 free-throw attempts. Rancho Santiago advanced to play Orange Empire Conference-rival Fullerton for the championship at 8 tonight.
Matt Kordic had 15 points and Nick Holt added 12 for for Rancho Santiago (10-3).
In the other semifinal:
Fullerton 92, East Los Angeles 82--Bobby Natoya had 27 points, including making five of 10 three-pointers, for Fullerton (13-2). Natoya, who had been bothered by a sore back that has limited his playing time, also made 11 of 14 free throws.
Kevin Carlson added 21 for Fullerton, which is going for its second consecutive tournament championship. The Hornets beat Irvine Valley a week ago in the title game of the Riverside tournament.
Dan Hardey had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds for Fullerton.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Irvine Valley 107, Palomar 75--Tom Airey scored 17 points, including five three-pointers, to lead six Irvine players in double figures. Steve Ransom added 16 points and 15 rebounds for Irvine (8-5).
Saddleback 85, San Diego Mesa 67--Derrick Walsh had 20 points and 10 rebounds for host Saddleback (7-4). Antoine Jefferson had 17 points and Josh Borella added 16 and eight assists. Saddleback trailed, 20-12, early but Borella made consecutive layups to start the Gauchos’ rally.
In the women’s Coast Christmas Classic:
Southwestern 62, Orange Coast 61--Flo Luppani missed the front end of a one-and-one with six seconds left for host Orange Coast (9-4). LeAnn Kazmer had 15 points and 11 rebounds for OCC, which plays Saddleback at 3 p.m. today in the consolation round.
Los Angeles Trade Tech 58, Fullerton 55--Carrie Glodt had 14 points for Fullerton (7-7), which plays Los Angeles Valley at 1 p.m. today in the consolation round.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Golden West 87, Bakersfield 41--Deana Itow had 25 points and nine assists and Julie Murdent scored 19 points to lead Golden West (14-2). Bakersfield was led by Jennifer Dunson with 18 points.
