VIEWPOINT / LETTERS : Looking at Two Sides of the Knight Story
- Share via
Congratulations to Mike Downey on his Bob Knight article (Dec. 12). He is one of the few sportswriters or sportscasters that has ever told the total and true Bob Knight story.
If parents want to send their sons to play for a coach who truly doesn’t care about their son’s education, his grades, his graduation, his respect for authority, and cares little about getting an NCAA ring, then send them elsewhere. They won’t make it playing for Knight.

Regarding Bob Knight’s suspension, I’m sure this one incident would not have been such a news item except for the fact that Knight has a long record of losing his temper and displaying a lack of discipline, which is the opposite of what a good coach should instill in his players. It’s unfortunate for the game of basketball, Indiana University and his admirers that Coach Knight never learned this very important element of competitive sports.
