Kane Leads Corona del Mar Past Irvine in Estancia Tournament Semifinal
Rosalie Kane had 23 points and nine rebounds to lead Corona del Mar to a 57-45 victory over Irvine in the semifinals of the Estancia girls’ basketball tournament Wednesday.
Sara Amoli added 11 points and six assists for Corona del Mar (3-1). Melinda Newe and Jessica Bullock each scored 10 points to pace Irvine.
Corona del Mar will face Estancia in the final at 7:45 p.m. tonight at Estancia.
In other Estancia tournament games:
Estancia 78, Compton Centennial 21--Jenny Jennings had 15 points and Jessica Waltz had 12 points and six assists to lead Estancia (7-1) in the semifinals. Karla Dominguez had nine points, eight steals and six assists and Laura Czingula had 11 points for the Eagles.
Saddleback 46, Orange 38--Junior forward Nicole Wiora scored a career-high 31 points, 16 in the third quarter to lead Saddleback in consolation play.
In the El Dorado tournament:
El Dorado 55, Valencia 43--Jamie Sweet scored 15 points, including two three-pointers, Jamie Nebeker added 13 points, including three three-pointers, and Michelle DeBruijn had seven points to lead host El Dorado (4-0) in the first round.
Jamie Snavely, Cindi Judd and La Quinta Alexander each scored 10 points for Valencia (2-3).
Pomona 55, Sunny Hills 42--Maguni Takasaki scored 15 points and Randi Kameoka added 13 points to lead Sunny Hills (1-6) in the first round.
In the Cypress tournament:
Newport Harbor 60, Huntington Beach 50--Genevieve Evarts scored a game-high 20 points, Mandy Clayton added 12 points and Melissa Schutz had 11 points to lead Newport Harbor (4-2) in consolation play.
Newport Harbor will face Kennedy in the consolation final at 3 p.m. Friday at Cypress High.
Marina 45, Cerritos 39--Shandy Robbins had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Martita Emde added 12 points to lead Marina (4-2) in consolation play.
In the La Quinta tournament:
La Quinta 80, Norwalk Glenn 60--Rhonda Gondringer scored 20 points, Linda Rodriguez had 20 points, including four three-pointers, and Shannon Mimms had 14 points, including four three-pointers, to lead La Quinta (2-2).
Ocean View 58, Troy 42--Alison Joroe had 17 points, Farrah Magee had 11 points and 16 rebounds and Becky Fraser had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Ocean View (4-1) in a first-round game. Audra Gamst had 11 points and eight rebounds for Troy (4-3).
Santiago 67, Foothill 27--Rayna Harrell had 17 points, including five three-pointers, and Cari Remell had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Santiago (2-2) in the first round. Katy Steinle scored 18 for Foothill.
Dana Hills 61, Esperanza 58 (OT)--Nicolle Zuniga scored six of the Dolphins’ 10 points in overtime in the first-round victory. Zuniga had 16 for and Karun Grossman had 25 points, including a 12-footer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime for Dana Hills (4-1).
In the Bolsa Grande tournament:
San Clemente 47, South Torrance 27--Michelle Macintyre had 15 points and 18 rebounds to lead San Clemente (5-1) in the second round.
Western 68, Pacifica 36--Isabel Rojas had 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead Western (3-4) in a consolation game.
Magnolia 50, Bolsa Grande 21--America Bonales had 10 points and six rebounds and Andrea Picchi had nine points and 11 rebounds for Magnolia (5-1) in a consolation game.
In nonleague games:
Fullerton 58, Ontario Chaffey 44--Junior center Nadia Hoerner scored 33 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Fullerton.
Loara 49, Savanna 39--Becky Joosten had 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead Loara (1-4).
