Hurley Alert, Lungs Clearing After Surgery

SACRAMENTO — Bobby Hurley was alert and his condition improved Tuesday after a car crash that initially left the Sacramento King rookie fighting for his life.
Doctors at UC Davis Medical Center said Hurley remained in serious condition, a day after an eight-hour operation, but that bruises on his lungs are healing and his lungs are clearing.
Police said blood tests showed the presence of an amphetamine in the other driver, Daniel Wieland, who suffered a broken leg. Police said more tests are needed to determine if Wieland was under the influence of drugs or merely had taken an over-the-counter medicine.
