Rancho Santiago, Fr.
Wrestling
Padgett got a second chance at a State title and made up for the one he missed in high school. When he was a senior at Canyon High School in 1992 he took a 49-0 record into the State meet, but lost in the second round at 160 pounds. He came back to finish third but the result still left him unsatisfied. This time around, he suffered no setbacks in taking the title at 167 pounds for Rancho Santiago. He scored a second-round pin of Fresno’s Brian Haupt and was selected most valuable wrestler at the meet. He finished the season with a record of 32-3.
Other notables:
* Kevin Carlson averaged 20 points per game in helping Fullerton to the title of the 16-team Riverside Holiday Tournament.
* Gerald Rhoden scored a career-high 38 points as Golden West beat Mt. San Jacinto, 97-79, in the Riverside Holiday Tournament.
