Vice President Al Gore arrives in Moscow today in a show of American support for Russian President Boris N. Yeltsin following Sunday’s parliamentary elections. Gore meets with Yeltsin on Wednesday to pledge continued U.S. aid for his reforms and to lay the groundwork for Yeltsin’s January summit with President Clinton.
The vice president’s schedule also includes several sessions of a commission he chairs with Russian Premier Viktor S. Chernomyrdin on U.S.-Russian cooperation on energy, technology, space and the environment.
Gore flies to St. Petersburg on Friday to hold a campaign-style “town meeting” before returning to Washington.
