Shopping Network Fights Former Counsel: Home Shopping Network Inc. has filed an insider trading counterclaim against its former general counsel, Allen Allweiss, who is accusing company officials of financial misconduct. The counterclaim, filed in St. Petersburg, Fla., accuses Allweiss of improperly buying more than $1 million of Liberty Media Corp. stock shortly before it bought control of Home Shopping Network. Home Shopping Network, based in St. Petersburg, says Allweiss’s alleged purchase of 40,000 Liberty Media shares in mid-January “was based upon inside and non-public information obtained by him in his capacity as general counsel.” Allweiss’s attorney, Robert Merkle, said Home Shopping Network’s allegations were “absolutely not true.”
