* Regarding “Syria OKs Hunt for Israeli MIAs” (Dec. 6): Why should President Hafez Assad of Syria receive adulation and thanks and why is U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher so elated that Assad is going to allow things that he shouldn’t have done in the first place?
Residents of Syria, whatever nationality, should have been free to emigrate all the time. MIAs should have received proper attention and communication with relatives all the time, not just when requested by a foreign dignitary. Would the world give thanks to any of the recent kidnapers if they “made a humanitarian gesture” of returning their prey after a certain length of time?
