Beverly Hills : Drilling for Water Planned
- Share via
The city moved a step closer this week to tapping its ground water as a source of drinking water.
The City Council on Tuesday awarded a $363,000 contract to a San Carlos company to build a test well in the median of Burton Way, near Foothill Road. ASE Drilling will begin the six-month project in January.
The city authorized the construction of the stainless steel well after earlier water quality tests proved inconclusive. The test well, which can be converted into a production well, will be used to evaluate the water quality and costs associated with full-scale ground water operations.
A preliminary study estimated that eight wells could produce as much as 25% of the city’s water supply, thereby freeing the city from its reliance on the Metropolitan Water District, the water wholesaler for Southern California.
