During a 17-year NFL career, Steve DeBerg has stepped aside for Joe Montana, John Elway, Steve Young and Vinny Testaverde. This week, DeBerg may be forced out of the starting lineup by Scott Mitchell.
Mitchell, sidelined the past month because of a dislocated shoulder, rejoined practice Wednesday with the Miami Dolphins. Coach Don Shula hasn’t announced which quarterback will start Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh running back Barry Foster practiced Wednesday for the first time since spraining his left ankle Nov. 15, increasing his chances of playing Monday night. . . . Tackle Will Wolford of the Indianapolis Colts, who underwent surgery on his left shoulder last winter, will have a similar operation on his right shoulder within the next week and will be sidelined the rest of the season.
