Coach: Kerry McGrath (third year).
1992-93: 21-6-1, 9-2-1 in the Sunset League; lost to Simi Valley, 2-0, in the Division I quarterfinals.
Key returners: Erin Bailey, Sr., midfielder, 1993 Sunset League MVP; Shauna Itri, So., midfielder; Michelle Kaping, Sr., defender; Julie Koudelka, Sr., defender; Jacque Lamb, Sr., midfielder; Shellee Stucker, Sr., forward; Michelle Turner, Sr., defender; Christine Tyler, Sr., forward, 1992 league MVP; Jocelyn Polen, So., goalie; Nicole Price, Jr., midfielder.
Key newcomers: Melissa Bucknam, So., midfielder; Kim James, Fr., goalie; Laura Lamb, So., forward; Jaime Thiel, So., forward.
Outlook: With eight starters returning from one of the county’s most talented teams, the Chargers should give Marina a good test in league. It’s a close bunch, many have been playing together since kindergarten. McGrath says the team peaked too early last season--it won the Foothill Excalibur tournament--but won’t make the same mistake this time. League play and the playoffs are the priority; anything else is merely a bonus.
