HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 36-year-old woman was critically injured Saturday in a two-car collision near Edinger Avenue and Newland Street, police said.
Doris Ann Hirakawa of Torrance was injured at 6:26 p.m. when she apparently drove across the southbound lanes of Newland and into the path of another car, Lt. Jeff Cope said.
The second driver, Edward Cook, 68, of Fountain Valley, was also injured in the collision. Police said Cook skidded, but was unable to stop before striking the left side of Hirakawa’s car.
Hirakawa was in critical condition at UCI Medical Center late Saturday. Cook was listed in serious condition with head and chest injuries at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, officials said.
