The Division I football final Friday night at Cerritos College will be televised live by KCOP Channel 13. The Los Angeles station has signed a three-year agreement with the Southern Section for exclusive rights to the game.
LATE HEROICS
Huntington Beach’s Chris Yadrick scored on a six-yard touchdown run with four minutes remaining to help the Oilers take an 18-12 lead, then 34 seconds later he recovered a fumble on Compton Dominguez’s next possession at the Dons’ 45 to help secure the victory.

TOP PERFORMANCES
John Flynn completed nine of 14 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown to lead Mater Dei into the championship game of the Division I playoffs with a 15-11 victory over Lancaster Antelope Valley. Michael-John Rzeznik caught two passes for 41 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown strike for the Monarchs’ first score. Robbie Tritz returned an interception 29 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown to clinch the victory.
Quarterback Levi Schuck completed 18 of 27 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown to lead Huntington Beach to an 18-12 victory over Compton Dominguez in a Division II semifinal. Teammate Tony Gonzalez caught seven passes for 77 yards and a touchdown, and also completed one pass for 42 yards.
Brandon Brennan completed 13 of 28 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as Whittier held on for a 24-12 victory in a Division VI semifinal. Marques Robinson caught five passes for 72 yards, including a 50-yarder for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Pioneers finish their season at 8-4-1.
Junior Jeff Turbarg caught six passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns and junior Kevin Allen rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown in 25 carries to help Rancho Alamitos reach its second consecutive Division VII title game with a 24-14 victory over Arroyo Grande.
Senior running back Binh Tran, who finished the regular season as the county’s No. 2 ground gainer, carried 50 times for 309 yards and three touchdowns as Costa Mesa buried San Marino, 35-7, to set up an all-Pacific Coast League final in the Division VIII championship game.
The Mustangs will meet the winner of tonight’s Laguna Hills-Trabuco Hills game. During the regular season, Costa Mesa defeated Laguna Hills, 39-36, and Trabuco Hills, 13-3.
