In the Southern Section girls’ individual finals at the Irvine Racquet Club, Palos Verdes Peninsula swept the competition for the second consecutive year.
Junior Amanda Augustus, who won the doubles title last year with Jennifer Cohen, won the singles title by defeating Arcadia’s Pam Trump, 6-3, 6-4. Peninsula junior Janet Lee won the singles title last year, but chose not to play in the tournament this year.
Seniors Nicole London and Amber Basica took the doubles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sarah Hawkins and Mara Colaizzi of Newport Harbor.
Augustus trailed, 4-1, in the second set against Trump, but she won the last five games.
“I knew I was really tired and I didn’t want to play another set,” said Augustus, who finished second in last week’s girls’ 18 USTA National Indoors tournament. “If I cut down on my unforced errors, I figured I could come back.”
