WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL / NCAA TOURNAMENT : Long Beach, USC in Second Round

Long Beach State will play host to George Washington tonight at 7:30, and USC will play at Stanford at 7 in second-round matches of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament.
The 49ers (27-2) were top-seeded in the Northwest Region and received a first-round bye. Long Beach is led by Danielle Scott, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker who was voted Big West Conference player of the year for the second consecutive season.
George Washington (28-7) won the Atlantic 10 Conference championship to advance to the tournament for the first time. The Colonials defeated Pittsburgh in five games in the first round.
USC (22-8) faces the toughest match of the second round at defending NCAA champion Stanford (21-6). The Trojans were ranked 13th in this season’s final regular-season poll, and the Cardinal was ranked sixth.
USC defeated Radford in three games Wednesday to advance to the second round. Stanford had a first-round bye.
USC and Stanford split a pair of matches this season.
