Unseeded Allegre of Camarillo Pulls Off Upset

IRVINE — Camarillo High tennis player Monique Allegre scored the biggest victory of her high school career Thursday when she upset Laura Ruben in the Southern Section individual tournament at the Irvine Racquet Club.
Allegre, the Scorpions’ No. 1 singles player who is unseeded in the tournament, defeated third-seeded Ruben of Mater Dei, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in the quarterfinal round after she topped Gina Pelazini of Pacific, 6-3, 7-5, in the round of 16.
In doubles, fourth-seeded Shera Weigler and Deborah Pepkowitz of Calabasas lost to Jessica Improta and Danielle Ouwendijk of Rio Mesa, 6-2, 6-4, in the quarterfinals.
Improta and Ouwendijk had defeated Tami Demaree and Kelly Foster of Edison, 6-3, 6-3, in the round of 16.
