OUTLOOK
Coaches throughout the league believe El Toro will be much improved from its cellar-dwelling 1992-93 season. The key to a productive year is quite simple, according to Travers. “If we play as a team, we’ll win; if we don’t, we won’t,” he said. “The strength of this team will be to play as a team.” Box score watchers can expect to see a different leading scorer’s name on any given night. Although everyone needs to contribute, Travers will first look to Bone, Graul, Lewis (a second team all-league choice who led the team with a 11.5 scoring and 6.5 rebounding average) and Jacobson, the voices of experience. Travers expects to keep with the same kind of game--fast break, motion offense, tough man-to-man defense--that the Chargers have employed in the past. He hopes to see the most dramatic improvements in the confidence department. “The biggest thing is the mind set has to change from hoping they can win to knowing they can. They can only be effective when they believe it.”
