The L.A. music scene continued to diversify in 1993, expanding, if possible, on the eclecticism that marked last year’s list. Rap, folk, grunge, roots, new wave, pop-rock, industrial and more are represented in this look at new acts that made the biggest area impact this year .
Ethyl Meatplow: The guitarless trio rose from the underground dance/bar scene and made tribal drums, dark cabaret and onstage spankings seem like a natural combination. Their industrial sound appeals to more than just L.A.’s pierced-skin and leather-clad underground: After releasing an album on Dali/Chameleon, they slithered into the national dance charts.
