COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Beats El Camino to Remain Undefeated

Derek Roche scored 18 points, Chauncey Woolridge 17 and Todd Loewe 16 as Orange Coast beat El Camino, 82-79, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday in Costa Mesa.
With the victory, Orange Coast is off to a 5-0 start. The Pirates were 5-23 last season. Orange Coast led by as many as 16 but the score was tied, 73-73, with 57 seconds left when Woolridge made a three-pointer. Roche added four free throws in the final 13 seconds to clinch the victory.
In the Yavapai (Ariz.) women’s basketball tournament:
Cypress 85, Oxnard 61--Sara Works came off the bench to score 19 points as five Cypress players scored in double figures during the second game of the round-robin tournament in Prescott, Ariz. Thuy Tran and Christy Kalbhenn each scored 13 points, Jody Caruso added 12, and Tamika Harold had 11 for the Chargers (6-0). Cypress plays Yavapai in the final game of the tournament today.
In the Southern California women’s soccer playoffs:
El Camino 3, Orange Coast 0--El Camino advances to the Southern California final Tuesday against the winner of Cypress-Mt. San Antonio, which play at 1 p.m. today at Cypress. Orange Coast, the second-place team from the Orange Empire Conference, ended at 12-8-1.
