OUTLOOK
Orris expects strong play from his deep backcourt, and said he hopes the defending Division IV-AA champions can at least contain opposing teams inside. “For us to be successful, we need to control the interior play of the other team, stay out of foul trouble, and stay healthy,” he said. “We’ll try to spread the floor and create more motion, because we don’t have that post player to jam the ball in to.” He said Bastani improved his play while averaging 20 points over the summer. MacMillan will provide leadership and intensity. “At times (last year), he was our leading rebounder at 5-7,” Orris said. “He has a tremendous amount of heart and drive. He plays so hard he raises the level of those he plays with. As long as you have a solid point guard, you have a fighting chance. That’s one of the things that encourages me.” Another encouraging sign was the teams’ play over the summer, which Orris said “surprised some people, including myself.” He said he thinks the Sea Kings will finish in the middle of the league standings, but if his team has any advantage, it’s a well-balanced scoring attack. “I think everyone can score,” he said. “We don’t have to count on one or two guys.”
