OUTLOOK
While nearly every coach picked Pacifica to win the league title, almost every coached picked Bolsa Grande as the league’s dark horse. “They have four good guards,” La Quinta Coach Jim Perry said. “They could cause a lot of problems.” However many problems the Matadors cause, they should easily win more league games than they did last year. “We thought we’d be better last year,” Cardoza said. “We lost five games by less than five points.” If the summer is any indication, the Matadors will be much improved. They went 13-3 and won the Rancho Alamitos summer league. Since he lost all five starters from that team, Cardoza will build his squad from last year’s junior varsity team that went 20-2. “It’s a big step up from junior varsity. I hope they can do it.” Cardoza will count on Kinsicki, a water polo player, and Jefferson and Baughman, two football players, to provide the bulk inside. Quang Nguyen, Pham and Doan will supply the outside shooting.
