Pepperdine’s Petrov Beats No. 4 Italiano

IRVINE — Isabela Petrov of Pepperdine upset fourth-seeded Suzie Italiano of USC in the first round of the Southern California ITA women’s regional Thursday at UC Irvine.

Petrov won, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Petrov also won in the second round, 6-3, 6-1, against Tanya Lauer of San Diego State. Jane Chi, the top-seeded player, won twice. She beat Laura Rutledge of UC Santa Barbara, 6-0, 6-1, in the second round after beating Shiera Stuart of Nevada Las Vegas, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round.

UC Irvine’s Jennifer Wall, Antje Fritschi and Natasha Frantz lost in the first round.
