SEASON AT A GLANCE: Simmons, with a 44-4 record, led Burbank to the Foothill League championship. She won her third consecutive individual title in the league tournament last week. With Simmons playing No. 1 singles, Burbank is ranked 10th in the Southern Section in Division III.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: In winning the league tournament title, Simmons defeated Burroughs’ Jessica Perico, 6-2, 6-2, in the semifinals, then turned back teammate Analisa Swan, 6-2, 6-1, in the final. Simmons has not advanced past the third round of the Southern Section high school tournament, but she might be ready this year. She recently beat two college players in a tournament, including Krista Hansen, Cal State Fullerton’s No. 1 singles player, in straight sets.
