A 56-year-old ranch worker died late Sunday after his pickup truck slammed into a railroad crossing signal in Oxnard.
Luis Hernandez Vazquez, 56, of Camarillo was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John’s Regional Hospital at 10:15 p.m. Vazquez, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries to his head and chest.
Oxnard police said Vazquez’s truck was traveling about 60 m.p.h. when he smashed into the signal while trying to turn onto Pacific Avenue from 5th Street. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the accident, authorities said.
Senior Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said Vazquez worked on a ranch in the Camarillo area.
